Luis Suarez's role before the Uruguay players clashed with Colombia fans has been revealed as damning footage has emerged.

Colombia beat Uruguay 1-0 on Thursday to book their spot in the Copa America final against Argentina.

Crystal Palace's Jefferson Lerma scored the only goal of the game as he headed home before the break.

The Colombians were reduced to 10 men when Daniel Munoz was sent off, but they held on for the win to advance to the next round of the tournament.

But the semi-final tie was marred by the ugly scenes that took place after the final whistle.

Uruguay players entered the crowd to confront Colombia fans, promoting a wild brawl as Darwin Nunez was seen throwing punches.

However, before the players went into the stands Suarez clashed with Colombia's Miguel Borja, sparking furious scenes among both sets of teams.

Players and staff intervened as Suarez then congratulated James Rodriguez before going back to Borja and his teammates.

Another clip appears to show the former Liverpool star punching a Colombia coach.

Speaking after the game, Jose María Gimenez said members of the Uruguay players' families were threatened by fans.

“Let me say something before they cut you off because they won’t let us speak into the microphone, they don’t want me to say anything about what’s going on but this is a disaster," he said.

Gimenez added: "Please be careful, our families are in the stands, there are little newborn babies. It was a disaster; there was no police and we had to defend our families. This is the fault of two or three people who had a few too many drinks and don’t know how to drink."

Uruguay resume their campaign with a third-place match against Canada while Colombia meet Argentina in the final.
