Trent Alexander-Arnold has compared one of his former Liverpool teammates to Cristiano Ronaldo and admits he's thankful to have never come up against him.

Alexander-Arnold spoke to former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on the latest episode of The Overlap about his career at Liverpool, working under Jurgen Klopp and his goals for the future.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, has played a major role in Liverpool's success under Klopp, winning both the Champions League and Premier League with his boyhood club in additional to several other major trophies.

He has now named Al Nassr star Sadio Mane as the one former teammate who he's hate to come up against.

Senegal international Mane scored 120 goals in 269 games for Liverpool after joining from Southampton in 2016.

He left the club in 2022 to join Bayern Munich but stayed in Germany for just a single season before moving to the Saudi Pro League in 2023, joining Ronaldo at Al Nassr.

And Alexander-Arnold believes there are similarities between the two players.

"Sadio Mane is the one player that I played with that I've always thought, I'm thankful that I didn't have to play against him," Alexander-Arnold said on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet.

"He was the perfect attacker, he had everything. As an athlete, he was similar to Cristiano Ronaldo – he had the jump, was fast, could finish both feet, and was a threat at all times."

Alexander-Arnold also went on to reveal that he would have loved to come up against Ronaldo during his first spell at Manchester United.

When asked which football era he'd like to play in most, Alexander-Arnold said: "Late 2000's I would say.

"Yeah, I loved that era. [Wayne] Rooney, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Carlos] Tevez, you had [Frank] Lampard, [Didier] Drogba, you had like, [Cesc] Fabregas with [Robin] van Persie, you had [Steven] Gerrard, [Fernando] Torres – like each team had their superstars, it was just incredible.

"And then I loved the 09/11 Barcelona team – I would have loved to have [played against them].

"But I think that, that era was, that's the one that I grew up watching. And I was like 10 to 15 at that time. And I was like, that's what really dragged me into football, man."
