Liverpool fans have been left concerned after Trent Alexander-Arnold has finally broken his silence on his future with his current contract set to expire in the summer.

While many were concerned that the departure of Jurgen Klopp would leave Liverpool in a state of limbo, Arne Slot has had an extremely impressive start to life at Anfield.

Liverpool sit second in the Premier League table, just one point behind Manchester City, and one point ahead of fellow title rivals Arsenal after their impressive 3-0 win at home to Bournemouth on Saturday.

While it may appear like a seamless transition on the pitch, issues of the pitch are by far the more significant with Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk, and Mo Salah all out of contract at the end of the season.

Alexander-Arnold is a player of particular interest after the England international was consistently to Real Madrid over the summer.

Speaking on Sunday, the Liverpool defender finally opened up on his precarious situation.

“I want to win trophies," Trent told reporters.

"I’m a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite. That’s probably the main factor of anything. I want to win”.

“I have always said I want to captain the club. That is a goal of mine, whether that happens is out of my hands.

“I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say," he added.

Trent also stressed that whatever happens it will be done behind closed doors and with respect.

“Look, I have been at the club 20 years now. I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. This one won’t be either," he explained.

While the England star's desire to captain Liverpool one day may appear as a positive for Liverpool fans, the overriding feeling amongst fans online is that they expect Trent at the Bernabeu next year.

One fan wrote: "He’s going to Real Madrid then. Mbappe gave all these signs too."

Another added: "Sounds like someone’s flirting with Real Madrid lmao."

A third wrote: "This doesn't sound good at all..."
