Liverpool fans are calling for one of the club's star players to have his contract terminated.

Liverpool have experienced their fair share of bad injury luck in recent months, but it looks like supporters have lost patience with one particularly unlucky individual.

Fans couldn't believe it when Liverpool signed Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich in 2020, especially the fact that he cost just £20 million.

The Spaniard was widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, and counts Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola among his biggest admirers.

However, since making the move to Anfield the midfielder has been plagued by injuries, including issues with his hamstrings, knees, calfs and hips.

On Sunday Thiago made his long-awaited return to action after spending more than nine months out with a hip injury.

He came off the bench for the final five minutes of Liverpool's 3-1 Premier League defeat to Arsenal, but now it appears he has suffered another injury set back.

The 32-year-old felt muscle discomfort during his short cameo, and now faces another spell on the sidelines while he receives treatment.

Thiago's contract is set to expire in the summer, but some Liverpool fans have had enough and want him released immediately.

"Get rid of him ASAP," one fan reacted to the news on X, formerly Twitter, while another said: "And people last week said we should give him a new contract. Get him gone asap."

One fan was critical of the patience Liverpool have shown the player, saying: "Should have gotten rid of this chronic injury prone player since last summer."

One sympathetic fan said: "I love him but please do not renew his contract," but another said: "Nah, he’s just trolling us now."

It's expected that Thiago will be released by Liverpool when his current contract expires at the end of the season.
