Steven Gerrard named the four current Premier League stars he would've most wanted to play with including Man Utd star

The former Liverpool and England legend admitted that he would've liked to have shared a pitch with some current players.

Steven Gerrard has already named the four Premier League players he would’ve liked to have played with during his career.

Gerrard, 44, is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation alongside Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes.

The former Aston Villa manager could’ve arguably achieved more in his playing career if he left Liverpool during his peak years but he remained at the 19-time Premier League champions until he moved to MLS side LA Galaxy in 2015.

During his time with Liverpool and England, he played alongside several world-class players including Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres just to name a few, but who out of the current crop of Premier League talent would he want to play alongside?

Gerrard, covered the topic when speaking to Gary Neville during an episode of The Overlap back in 2022.

"Mo Salah, Bruno Fernandes, you might not agree with that, but I really like him," Gerrard said to Neville.

Salah, 32, has already passed Gerrard in Liverpool’s all-time top scorers list and won a Premier League – something the former midfielder never achieved during his time with the Reds, albeit the Egyptian has played in arguably more talented teams.

However, similar to Gerrard's situation while at Liverpool, Fernandes, 30, is Man United's best player but has yet to taste success in the Premier League despite being a standout since he joined the club from Sporting CP in 2020.

Gerrard continued then mentioning Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne before describing the Belgian as “one of the best in the world”.

And of course, it was not long before he mentioned Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk who he claimed was “out of this world”.

Then he settled the age-old greatest of all time (GOAT) debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Lionel Messi for me, but I’m someone who would never say a derogatory thing about Ronaldo because he’s another phenomenal [player],” said Gerrard.

"They’re the two in my era that were just… when you’re a footballer and you’ve done it yourself, the numbers are just… I’m not sure who’s going to do that again."
