The Liverpool legend has made some vulnerable confessions about how the slip impacted him.

Steven Gerrard has opened up about the extreme thing he did immediately after the infamous slip that cost Liverpool the Premier League title.

Throughout all of sports, there are hundreds of 'what if?" moments where if a certain moment was changed even slightly, it could potentially have had a huge impact.

In football, perhaps one of the most notable examples is Liverpool legend Gerrard's famous slip during the Premier League match against Jose Mourinho's Chelsea in April 2014.

The moment, which saw Gerrard set Chelsea striker Demba Ba up with a 1 on 1 to take the lead in the match, is viewed by many as the moment that cost Liverpool their first league title since 1990, as Manchester City went on to win the title.

Years later, as he reflected on the moment, Gerrard made a shocking confession about what he did immediately after the slip and how it left a massive impact on him.

Although no Liverpool holds any ill-will towards Gerrard for the moment, the fact that he, as a boyhood supporter of Liverpool and captain of the club, was involved in such a consequential mistake clearly weighs heavy on the Reds legend.

In his autobiography, titled My Story, opening up about the impact that it had on him, admitting that it took a serious toll on his mental health.

Writing in 2014, the Liverpool legend admitted: "I sat in the back of the car and felt the tears rolling down my face. I hadn’t cried for years but, on the way home, I couldn’t stop. It was very quiet as we moved further and further away from Anfield.

"I felt numb, like I had lost someone in my family. It was as if my whole quarter of a century at this football club poured out of me. I did not even try to stem the silent tears as the events of the afternoon played over and over again in my head."

Gerrard went on to discuss Liverpool's famous 'You'll never walk alone' and how, despite support from the fans, the moment left him considering reaching out for professional help due to fear he may hurt himself.

"I felt isolated. I felt very alone, Gerrard continued.

"The Liverpool anthem reminds you to hold your head up high when you walk through a storm. It reminds you not to be afraid of the dark.

"It reminds you to walk on through the wind and the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown, and to walk on with hope in your heart. I did not feel like I had much hope left.

"It seemed like I was heading for suicide watch instead."
