Liverpool make Premier League history with bizarre record during West Ham win

Liverpool have set a new Premier League record following their dramatic 5-2 win over West Ham United.

On Saturday afternoon, Liverpool welcomed West Ham United to Anfield for a Premier League fixture that felt like a must-win for Arne Slot's side.

Thankfully for Liverpool, that is exactly what they did, as five goals from the home side saw them secure the three points at Anfield.

The win keeps Liverpool firmly in the race to secure Champions League qualification for next season, as they currently sit fifth in the league and level on points with rivals Manchester United.

However, a vital three points isn't the only thing that Liverpool took away from the win, as they also set a new Premier League record that will take some doing to beat.

Liverpool needed just five minutes to draw first blood in the match as Hugo Ekitike found the back of the net following a corner.

Shortly after, captain Virgil van Dijk doubled his side's lead with his 28th goal for the club, once again from a set-piece, before Alexis Mac Allister fired one into the top of the net following yet another corner.

Following their prolific first half performance, Liverpool have now scored seven consecutive Premier League goals from non-penalty set-pieces, setting the record for the longest run in the competition's history.

The Reds are also the first team since Manchester United against Leicester City in 2016 to score three goals from corners in the first 45 minutes of a Premier League match.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool also set atop the table for the most set-piece goals of any Premier League side this year, having been joint-bottom from the start of the season until the end of 2025

Ibrahima Konate's goal from a corner during the 4-1 win over Newcastle United in January started this impressive run, with Florian Wirtz's strike in the same game Liverpool's last open-play goal.

A 1-0 win over Sunderland thanks to a Van Dijk winner from a corner and a Dominik Szoboszlai free kick during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City followed the Newcastle United match.

In the game prior to the West Ham United win, Mac Allister found a winner in the final moments of the match, which technically came from a set piece as Forest never got out of their box so it never became open play.
