Egypt icon sends Liverpool fans wild with bombshell Mo Salah contract update

The post took Liverpool fans by surprise.

A former Egypt star has claimed to know where Mohamed Salah's future lies with his Liverpool contract due to expire in the summer.

Salah has already scored 13 goals and provided eight assists in just 14 Premier League games this season, and fans are desperate to see him put pen to paper to stay at Anfield.

But the Egyptian forward has cast doubt over his future, telling media that he was 'more out than in' and hadn't yet received a contract offer from Liverpool after their 3-2 win over Southampton last month.

And questioned after the 2-0 win over Manchester City the following Sunday, telling Sky Sports: "Honestly, it's in my head, until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool, so I was just going to enjoy it."

Speculation has run rife over Salah's potential next club if he does leave Anfield, with reported interest from PSG and a renewed offer from the Saudi Pro League also expected.

But former Egypt defender Haytham Farouk has sensationally claimed that none of that talk is necessary.

Taking to Twitter, the 53-year-old has appeared to congratulate Salah on his new contract with Liverpool.

"Congratulations on renewing your contract with the number you like and the period you want," Farouk said.

"The Egyptian king rules with his own judgments."

The post excited Liverpool fans as Farouk is one of just 146 people that Salah follows on Twitter.

He works as an analyst for beIN Sports, and is clearly close to the Liverpool star. Farouk appeared 13 times for the Egypt national team and enjoyed a successful club career, while also playing at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

Other Reds fans exercised a spot of caution, though, suggesting that, as the photo was posted during Newcastle's 3-3 draw against Liverpool on Wednesday, it may have simply been a post expressing that Salah can now demand whatever contract he wants after scoring twice in that game.

Speaking after the aforementioned 3-3 draw - in which Salah scored twice in the second half - Liverpool manager Arne Slot said: "Every time we need Mo Salah he scores a goal.

"We are hoping and expecting he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half. He did many special things for us."
