Liverpool are exploring a move for one of Europe's top full-backs and have 'made inquiries' about his availability, according to reports in Italy.
Arne Slot has confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong will miss "a few weeks" of action after picking up a knock in the opening minutes of their midweek Champions League win over Qarabag.
The injury to Frimpong, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, means the Reds have no recognised right-backs available to face Newcastle on Saturday.
"He [Frimpong] will definitely not be in the squad tomorrow," Slot said. "He is out for a few weeks, but [it's] not as bad as we thought, so something positive from something not so positive."

Conor Bradley has been ruled out for the rest of the season, while another right-back option, Joe Gomez, will miss this weekend's game after being forced off against Bournemouth last week.

It has been a testing time for Slot in regards to a lack of defensive options, but they could make a late swoop for Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Di Marzio suggests Liverpool have 'made inquiries' about the Netherlands international following Frimpong's injury.
"Much will depend on the final recovery time and, of course, the Nerazzurri's final decision," the report added. "For this reason, as reported, Inter have explored Norton-Cuffy's name."
Inter are said to be in advanced talks to sign former Arsenal academy product Brooke Norton-Cuffy from Genoa, according to Fabrizio Romano.
In addition to those reports, journalist Nicolò Schira has also suggested talks have taken place between Liverpool and Dumfries' representatives to 'explore the conditions' of a potential deal, with Inter asking for €25 million.
The 29-year-old has played a bit-part role for Inter this season following a spell on the sidelines with injury, but there is no doubting his ability.
Dumfries was tipped to join Liverpool last summer by Alan Shearer, who was full of praise for Dumfries as he mentioned fellow countryman Slot.
“Although Denzel Dumfries plays in a completely different system with Inter, there’s no doubt that when I’ve seen him in that system, he’s shone," Shearer told Betfair in May.
"His energy has been incredible and the most impressive thing for me is how good he’s been in forward positions.
“He got a couple of goals, the assist in the semi-finals. Defensively is a different question, but certainly offensively he’s a very, very good player. Arne Slot will know him better than anyone being a fellow Dutchman."
"Signing for Liverpool would be an option," added Shearer. "But he's got the chance of winning the Champions League and he's also got a chance of winning the league so he's obviously in a very healthy position. "
Of course, Inter Milan missed out on last season's Serie A title by a single point before losing the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
