Liverpool have delivered an update on the status of their Premier League clash against Leicester City amid concerns over the weather conditions.

Table-topping Reds are set to welcome Ruud van Nistelrooy's Leicester to Anfield on Thursday night.

However, throughout the afternoon, there were growing concerns over whether the match would go ahead due to the fog around the area.

Taking to social media, the Liverpool FC Help account warned fans to leave for the stadium earlier due to the weather.

The account wrote: "If you are coming to the match today, please ensure you set off earlier than usual due to foggy conditions in and around Anfield stadium. Please take care when travelling."

Meanwhile, The Athletic journalist James Pearce wrote: "As things stand, Liverpool still expecting tonight’s game v Leicester City to go ahead.

"Thick fog on Merseyside a concern - but officials insist there is no 4pm pitch inspection at Anfield."

Earlier in the month, Liverpool's match against local rivals Everton was called off due to the weather.

At the time, a statement from the club read: "We appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, but the safety of fans, staff and players is of paramount importance."

As things stand, Liverpool are set to have their lead at the top of the Premier League cut to just one point as Chelsea currently lead 1-0 at Stamford Bridge against Fulham.

In his programme notes, captain Virgil van Dijk said: "We know that there is still a long way to go in the season, of course, and we certainly won’t be taking anything for granted, but we know that we have given ourselves a platform from which to build.

"The task now is very simple; keep working hard, keep showing up every single day and keep giving everything we can. If we stay humble and stick to those principles, we can definitely make 2025 another memorable year for this amazing club."
