Liverpool star 'refusing' to sign new contract as two Premier League clubs register interest

The Reds are facing a fresh contract dilemma.

A Liverpool player is reportedly refusing to sign a new contract - with Premier League clubs expressing transfer interest.

The Reds have three major dilemmas ahead of the summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah all out of contract at the end of June.

None of the trio have yet agreed new terms, with Real Madrid showing heavy interest in Alexander-Arnold.

They launched a bid for the right-back before the January transfer window opened but it was swiftly rejected by the Reds.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, is reportedly attracting interest from their El Clasico rivals Barcelona, while Salah has been linked with possible moves to the Saudi Pro League or Paris Saint-Germain.

But another contract issue has presented itself to manager Arne Slot.

That's according to Football Insider, who claim that goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is unwilling to sign a new contract at Anfield at the current time.

The Republic of Ireland international will enter the final 12 months of his deal this summer, with Newcastle and Chelsea both keen to sign him if his stance continues.

Kelleher made eight Premier League appearances earlier this season in the absence of Alisson and impressed Liverpool fans, with some supporters thinking he may have done enough to usurp the Brazilian.

But the 26-year-old is now second choice again following Alisson's arrival, and it appears he is now harbouring thoughts of departing Anfield to become a number one goalkeeper elsewhere.

The Irishman's task at Liverpool may become even harder in the summer, with new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive at Anfield.

The Georgia international signed for the Reds from Valencia for a fee of £34 million last summer, before being loaned back to the Spanish club for the entirety of the 2024/25 season.

Kelleher admitted in October that he wanted to be a number one goalkeeper and had made that clear to Liverpool chiefs.

He said: "I played so many times last season, and if you do well your valuation goes up, because obviously the club is going to want a good profit.

"I was clear that I wanted to play first team football, whether that was here or elsewhere. I wanted to be a number one."
