Jurgen Klopp’s sudden announcement has left Liverpool fans reliving the club’s most shocking moment in history.

On Friday morning, Liverpool’s future was thrown into chaos after it was announced that Klopp would step down as manager at the end of the current campaign.

After nine trophy-laden years, Klopp felt it was the right time to draw the curtains on his wonderful chapter as Liverpool boss.

Over the years, the German has gotten his hands on all the major trophies available to him at Liverpool, including the Premier League and the Champions League.

On the back of Klopp’s shock announcement, Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media.

A video of when Liverpool fans were told of Bill Shankly’s retirement has since resurfaced.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “The worst thing is, this feels worse. Klopp is Shankly in the modern age, there’s nobody else like him.”

Explaining his decision to leave the club, Klopp said: “It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.

“After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth – and that is the truth.”
