Liverpool fans have spotted what Darwin Nunez said to Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken inside the tunnel after his late heroics.

On Saturday afternoon, Liverpool aimed to get back to winning ways in the Premier League as they took on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

As the clock ticked towards the 90th minute, it looked like Liverpool were going to leave London disappointed as the score was level at 0-0.

However, second-half substitute Nunez had other ideas as he netted twice in stoppage time to secure a vital 2-0 win for Arne Slot's men.

As a result of Liverpool's win and Arsenal's 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, the Reds now hold a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

On Monday, Liverpool posted a behind-the-scenes video from the Brentford match on their YouTube channel.

After the final whistle, as the players made their way back to the dressing room, Nunez was seen walking towards Virgil van Dijk and Flekken.

As the Uruguayan approached the Brentford goalkeeper, fans spotted Nunez saying the word 'sorry' to Flekken, which left Van Dijk in stitches as the pair shared an embrace.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Darwin apologising to Flekken. Virgil enjoyed that one."

Another tweeted: "Man apologised."

A third fan added: "No way he apologises to him hahaha."

Someone else wrote: "How can someone not love Darwin!"

A fifth commented: "Everyone needs a Darwin in there club."

Speaking to the media after his crucial goals, Nunez said: "I think you have to stay mentally strong, never give up. Yes, there are moments that are very difficult for us players, for me, it’s right now.

"But I never throw the towel in. I always carry on working. In training, if I need to stay and practice more, I stay to improve."

He continued: "I think the work that I do on the pitch to help the team to defend as well. I think I’ve always done it well but I haven’t scored goals and I know people look at that.

"The striker has to score goals."

Liverpool will be back in action on Tuesday night when they host Lille in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield.
