Alisson Becker dropped an absolute howler as Arsenal beat Liverpool to blow the Premier League title race wide open.

Arsenal ran out 3-1 winners at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and were by far the better team on the night.

Liverpool came into the game top of the Premier League table and had the chance to move eight points above their opponents, but now Jurgen Klopp's side have an advantage of just two.

Despite Arsenal's superiority, Mikel Arteta's side enjoyed a significant stroke of luck on their way to victory.

Arsenal took a deserved first half lead when Bukayo Saka swept home after Kai Havertz's shot bounced off Alisson into his path.

Liverpool drew level against the run of play thanks to a defensive mix up by the hosts, with the ball deflecting in off the hand of Gabriel Magalhaes after David Raya and William Saliba failed to deal with a through ball.

The second half was a more even affair, but a howler from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson allowed Arsenal to regain the lead.

The Brazilian produced an air-shot when he tried to clear a through ball Virgil van Dijk had left for him, allowing Gabriel Martinelli to slot the ball into the empty goal.

The Brazilian goalkeeper didn't exactly cover himself in glory when Leandro Trossard secured the victory in injury time with a third goal for Arsenal.

The Belgian winger had enjoyed the freedom of the left flank as he powered towards the penalty area, and his low strike took a nick off Van Dijk's boot and slipped through Alisson's legs into the far corner.

To compound Klopp's woes, centre-back Ibrahima Konate was given his marching orders when he received a second yellow card in the 88th minute. He'll miss Liverpool's home meeting with Burnley next weekend.

With Joel Matip out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, Joe Gomez will likely fill in at centre-back.
