Arne Slot has asked Liverpool to stump up £51.4 million for a player also wanted by Manchester City.

Dutch coach Slot is set to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer, with the German stepping down from his position after nine years.

The Reds have agreed a deal with Slot's current club Feyenoord for the 45-year-old to make the move to Anfield, though his appointment is yet to be officially confirmed.

Slot has been open in his desire to manage Liverpool, and recently insisted that his move will soon be finalised.

With Feyenoord's Eredivisie campaign drawing to a close this weekend, Slot has already been making plans for his new club.

The Dutchman is keen to bring in a new playmaker, and RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo is at the top of his wishlist.

The 26-year-old Spaniard can play centrally or on either flank, so would add to Liverpool's current stable of versatile attackers.

According to Spanish publication Nacional, Slot has asked his new employers to pay the £51.4m release clause in Olmo's Leipzig contract before his other potential suitors make a move.

Barcelona are reportedly interested in the attacker, while Manchester City have shown interest in the past with Pep Guardiola a huge fan of the playmaker.

Liverpool have dealt with Leipzig before, having signed Dominik Szoboszlai from the German club last summer by triggering his £60m release clause.

The Hungarian midfielder has had a mixed season, but that is unlikely to put Liverpool off signing another player from Leipzig.

The release clause in Olmo's contract means Liverpool should avoid the drawn-out negotiations City had to go through to sign Josko Gvardiol from Leipzig last summer.

Olmo is set to star for Spain at Euro 2024 in Germany this summer. The 2012 European champions will take on Italy, Croatia and Albania in the group stages.
