Liverpool fans are convinced Arne Slot has no 'sentiment' towards Jurgen Klopp's players after making a huge decision against Brighton.

Liverpool renewed hostilities with Brighton after dumping the Seagulls out of the Carabao Cup in midweek.

And ahead of the Premier League fixture at Anfield, Slot made a big selection call.

He dropped Andy Robertson from the starting XI, replacing him with Kostas Tsimikas.

Slot's decision to omit Robertson from the line-up got Liverpool fans online talking as they believe it's a 'positive' that the new boss has no 'sentiment' towards Klopp's former players.

One X user wrote: "I’m not a huge Tsimikas fan, but you can’t say he doesn’t deserve the chance to start. Robertson has looked well off it lately. The fact Slot doesn’t have any sentiment towards Klopp’s players is a big positive."

A second agreed: "Yeah, I’m with you. Tsimikas deserves a proper chance - Robertson's been off for a while now. Slot coming in with a fresh perspective and no loyalty to the old guard could be exactly what we need. Competition keeps standards high."

A third added: "Starting in the Champions League last week and again today whilst Robertson played 90 minutes in the cup, it looks like Kostas Tsimikas could now be Liverpool’s first choice left-back," to which someone replied: "Arne Slot is not playing around."

Robertson came under fire for his showing in his side's 2-2 draw at Arsenal, where he failed to stop Bukayo Saka for his goal.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's fixture against Brighton, Slot explained: "I think his current situation is what you can expect if a player misses out on pre-season... - you miss quite a lot. You have to go into a programme where you’ve missed the base tactically, when it comes to us [a new management team], and physically as well."

He added: "For me he is a bit in that period of time where he is thinking 'okay, I’m here now, should I be here or there?' That’s something I’ve seen a lot from other players in the past. The moment he stops thinking but is just acting on what we expect then he will be fine.

"That, combined with the fact that Robbo has always been a great player for this club especially because he went up and down, up and down all the time."
