Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has been asked about a potential move to Liverpool for the first time.

Since it was announced in January that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving the club at the end of the 23/24 season, Liverpool have been working behind the scenes to find the German’s successor.

Over the last few months, the likes of Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim, Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank have all been linked with the Anfield job.

However, Alonso revealed last month that he will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen, whilst recent reports indicate that Amrorim moving to Liverpool is unlikely.

This week, it emerged that 45-year-old Slot has become the leading candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager in the summer.

Ahead of Feyenoord’s match against Go Ahead Eagles, Slot was asked about the rumours by Sky Sports’ Gary Cotterill.

Cotterill said: “You’re in the news.” Slot replied: “I am.”

The Sky Sports reporter then added: “You said you wanted to go to the Premier League, is there a possibility?”

The Dutchman replied: “I can’t deny that.”

Cotterill then continued: “Liverpool want you,” to which Slot simply said: “But tonight we play Go Ahead Eagles.” You can watch the exchange below.

After Liverpool’s dismal 2-0 defeat against Everton on Wednesday night, captain Virgil van Dijk became the first player to speak about Slot.

He said: “I think Slot is one of the better Dutch coaches at the moment.

“With the way he plays and the philosophy he has, he can be a Liverpool coach. But I read and hear that it is far from complete. We shall see. We will focus on that next season, but that is still a long way off.”

Liverpool's final season under Klopp is now all but over after their recent poor run of form left them with a huge mountain to climb if they are to beat Arsenal and Manchester City to the Premier League title.
