Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister has settled the Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Kevin De Bruyne debate once and for all.

Ever since leaving Brighton and Hove Albion for Liverpool in the summer of 2023 for a deal worth a reported fee of £35 million, Mac Allister has become a key player at Anfield.

So far, the Argentine midfielder has made 92 appearances for the Anfield club, scoring 13 goals in the process.

Mac Allister has played a key role for Liverpool as they are now within touching distance of winning the Premier League title.

Ahead of Sunday's match against Tottenham Hotspur, Mac Allister was asked to rank legendary midfielders Gerrard, De Bruyne and Lampard.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the 26-year-old opted to put Liverpool legend Gerrard in first place, followed by Manchester City star de Bruyne and former Chelsea man Lampard was ranked third.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mac Allister explained: "The one I’ve watched the most was, of course, De Bruyne because of the age!

"I think he’s a really tough opponent but, as a player, I think you enjoy when you play against good teams and good players. So, I really enjoy playing against him."

He added: "Then, another fantastic player that I used to watch when I was a kid in Argentina – yeah, it’s Steven. A legend of this club. From what I hear and from what I’ve watched, Steven is the first.

"Second, Kevin de Bruyne. And Frank Lampard is third – he was a really good player, he loved to get in the box, his shooting was amazing, but Kevin is a really good player."

Mac Allister was also tasked with ranking Liverpool trio Alisson Becker, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in order of importance.

The Argentine went on to pick Salah first, Alisson second and Van Dijk third.

He simply said: "Mo is the best here," before labelling Alisson as the best goalkeeper in the world and Van Dijk as the 'best centre-back I’ve ever seen'.
