Respected journalist Paul Joyce has delivered a big update on Liverpool's interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
On Thursday morning, the Magpies stated that Isak failed to travel with the squad for their pre-season tour in Asia due to an injury.
Hours later, it was reported that Isak had informed Newcastle of his intentions to 'explore a move away'.
Since Isak's so-called transfer request, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Swedish international would like to leave Newcastle for Anfield.

He wrote on social media: "Once again: Alexander Isak wants Liverpool, it’s his priority as reported. No talks with Al Hilal, Chelsea or Manchester United."
On Friday afternoon, respected Liverpool journalist Joyce, who writes for The Times, gave an update on the transfer saga.

He stated that Liverpool do have an interest in Isak but then declared that the situation is far from straightforward.

Joyce touched on the fact that Newcastle's stance remains the same - Isak is not for sale - and unless the Magpies' view changes, Liverpool will 'remain admirers from afar'.
It has also been suggested that Liverpool would likely have to part ways with £150 million to tempt Newcastle to do business.
The report stated: "When Liverpool contacted Newcastle at the start of last week to check on the availability of Isak, it has been suggested they proposed a deal worth £120million to £130million for the Sweden international.
"Let’s consider Newcastle do buckle in the face of player power and agree to his departure — there is no certainty that the figures mentioned would be enough to then seal a deal. A fee of £150million has been mentioned."

So far this summer, Liverpool have already spent close to £300 million after bringing in the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Freddie Woodman, Armin Pecsi and Ekitike.
Aside from Isak, players such as Rodrygo, Marc Guehi and Anthony Gordon have also been linked with a move to the Premier League champions.
