Uncapped Liverpool wonderkid earns Scotland call-up for Euro 2024 after leaving Jurgen Klopp speechless

Uncapped Liverpool wonderkid earns Scotland call-up for Euro 2024 after leaving Jurgen Klopp speechless

Scotland's provisional Euro 2024 squad is out.

Liverpool wonderkid Ben Doak has been named in Scotland's provisional Euro 2024 squad by manager Steve Clarke.

The Reds starlet, 18, has missed most of the Premier League campaign through a knee injury but did feature during the group stage of this season's Europa League.

He is one of several Premier League representatives to be named in the contingent, with Manchester United's Scott McTominay and Doak's Liverpool team-mate Andy Robertson both set to be key players this summer.

For Doak, the call-up represents his first opportunity to gain a Scotland cap - although the extent of his recovery from injury may impact those hopes.

The 18-year-old played a significant part in Liverpool's pre-season, and earned praise from manager Jurgen Klopp for his displays.

He said: "Ben Doak, oh my God... the kids are really good and the others are really good already, we know that.

"Some of them might need to get through little holes here and then now because it's really tough for them of course."

The full provisional Scotland squad for Euro 2024 is as follows:

  • Goalkeepers - Zander Clark, Craig Gordon, Angus Gunn, Liam Kelly
  • Defenders - Liam Cooper, Grant Hanley, Jack Hendry, Ross McCrorie, Scott McKenna, Ryan Porteous, Anthony Ralston, Andy Robertson, John Souttar, Greg Taylor, Kieran Tierney
  • Midfielders - Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Christie, Billy Gilmour, Ryan Jack, John McGinn, Callum McGregor, Kenny McLean, Scott McTominay
  • Forwards - Che Adams, Ben Doak, Lyndon Dykes, James Forrest, Lawrence Shankland

Scotland kick off their Euro 2024 campaign with the opening game of the tournament against hosts Germany on June 14.

There are some issues in terms of squad selection for Clarke, who will be without first-choice full-backs Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson through injury. Midfielder Lewis Ferguson, who has starred for Bologna in Serie A this season, is also unavailable after undergoing surgery last month.
