A Championship cameo very much to forget.

Luton Town midfielder Liam Walsh was sent off during his side's Championship clash with Oxford United - just 36 seconds after coming on as a substitute.

The Hatters decided to bring Walsh into the action on 76 minutes in place of Marvelous Nakamba.

It had been a tough start for Rob Edwards' side on their return to the second tier, with just two wins from their opening seven matches.

With the scores at 2-2 against newly-promoted Oxford - who could have risen to seventh with a win - Edwards turned to former Everton and Bristol City midfielder Walsh to make an impact at Kenilworth Road.

Walsh did make an impact - but unfortunately for Hatters, it was entirely the wrong one.

He launched into a two-footed tackle on Oxford substitute Siriki Dembele, catching the forward high on his ankle.

Referee James Bell had no choice put to send Walsh off, thus ending a cameo that the Hatters won't want to watch back.

Take a look at the tackle below.

His time spent on the pitch was recorded at just 36 seconds.

The game ended 2-2, with Luton in 18th place ahead of most of this week's Championship fixtures taking place on Monday.

Des Buckingham's Oxford, meanwhile, are in 12th position with 11 points after a positive start to the season.

Ahead of the new campaign, Edwards and Luton largely stuck with the squad that played in the Premier League last season.

The Hatters only signed two players for fees, with several free transfers struck. They also secured the arrival of ex-Chelsea star Victor Moses earlier this month.

The side have had to cope without two key players from last season, however, with Ross Barkley and Chiedozie Ogbene having signed for Aston Villa and newly-promoted Ipswich Town respectively.
