Man Utd Player Who Ruben Amorim 'Called Out' On The Verge of Leaving Club

A Manchester United player who Ruben Amorim referenced during one of his final press conferences is close to agreeing a deal to leave the club.

Amorim was sacked by United earlier this month after just 14 months in charge.

His final game in charge was a 1-1 draw against Leeds at Elland Road - after which he walked out of his post-match press conference early.

Amorim stated that he 'came here to be manager of Manchester United, not the coach', in what some fans interpreted as an apparent dig at director of football Jason Wilcox.

It was not the first time during Amorim's final weeks in charge that his press conference comments had caused controversy.

In December, he referenced academy stars Chido Obi and Harry Amass, noting that Obi was not a regular starter for the under-21s and claiming that Amass was 'struggling' on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

It was unclear whether Amorim was referring to Amass' individual displays, or to Wednesday's position in the Championship table.

Crisis-hit Wednesday, who are currently in administration, have only won one Championship game all season and sit in 24th and last place on minus seven points.

Amid a strict transfer ban which did not allow them to pay a fee or salary contribution towards any incoming players, Amass was the only new signing to arrive at the club last summer.

The 18-year-old left-back was the Owls' star player during the first half of the season, and responded to Amorim's comments by posting a photo of himself holding Wednesday's Player of the Month award for November. He would win the award again in December.

Although he had played all but 22 minutes of Wednesday's matches up until January 4, United elected to recall him from his loan spell.

According to BBC Sport, Amass will not be staying in and around the first team under Michael Carrick at Old Trafford and will instead be going back out on loan.

Norwich City are said to be in talks over a deal to sign Amass until the end of the season, with it being understood that he will not be rejoining Wednesday.

Norwich had a horror start to the Championship season under Liam Manning, picking up just nine points from their opening 14 matches.

Their performances have picked up significantly since the arrival of former Rangers boss Philippe Clement, and the Canaries thrashed West Brom 5-0 at the Hawthorns on Tuesday.

They currently sit in 20th place in the Championship, two points above the relegation zone, but have now won three out of their last five matches.
