The three other players Jose Mourinho subbed on and off in the same match after brutal Renato Sanches decision

The three other players Jose Mourinho has subbed on and off in the same match after his recent brutal Renato Sanches decision.

Jose Mourinho recently made the brutal decision to substitute Renato Sanches just 18 minutes after bringing him, but it's not the first time he's done this to a player.

The Portuguese manager has managed at some of the biggest clubs throughout his career and has never shied away from making big decisions.

On Sunday, AS Roma were beaten 2-0 by Bologna in Serie A, but the result was overshadowed by Mourinho's decision to bring off Sanches just 18 minutes after introducing him.

Mourinho described the decision as a technical one and issued a public apology to Sanches after the game.

It isn't the first time that the 'Special One' has substituted a player in the same game that he's brought them on, in fact it has happened on three previous occasions.

Back in October 2015, during his second spell in charge of Chelsea, Mourinho substituted midfielder Nemanja Matic just 28 minutes after bringing him on in a 3-1 defeat to Southampton.

Matic said he felt "terrible" following the decision but chose to stay professional and not react.

Mourinho was sacked just two months later with the club in 16th just two points above the relegation zone.

The following year, when he was manager of Manchester United, Mourinho substituted midfielder Juan Mata in the stoppage time of the Community Shield after he was brought on in the 63rd minute.

Mata had to be restrained by staff whilst having a go at Mourinho for the insulting decision.

After the game, as per TNT Sports, Mourinho said: "I needed to take the smallest player off. Because I knew they were going to play big.

"So I can't remove the tall ones."

Lastly, in 2018 whilst he was still in charge at Old Trafford, Mourinho withdrew midfielder Marouane Fellaini a remarkable six minutes after bringing him on in a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Mourinho quickly dispelled reports it was a tactical decision by confirming that Fellaini picked up an injury shortly after coming on.
