Two current Liverpool players have commented on Jordan Henderson’s Ajax transfer announcement.

This week, the former Reds captain completed his move to Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax after agreeing to terminate his contract with Saudi Professional League club Al Ettifaq.

Henderson only left Anfield for Saudi Arabia back in the summer transfer window but declared his wish to return to Europe earlier in the month.

Taking to social media, Henderson announced his new club by posting a picture of him wearing the Ajax kit, the caption read: “Amsterdam! So happy to be here. Can't wait to see you all soon.”

In the comments section, current Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold simply put three red cross emojis and a salute emoji.

Full-back Andy Robertson wrote: “Love it mate!”

Announcing his departure from Al Ettifaq, Henderson wrote: “I’m sad to say that I will be leaving Al Ettifaq with immediate effect. It wasn’t an easy decision but one that I feel is best for me and my family.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the club & the fans for all the support during my time.”

He added: “I really felt the love from Day One. I’ll keep watching & hoping for your success. Good luck for the future.”

Speaking to his new club, the 33-year-old said: “Putting on that Ajax shirt for the first time will be really special and I can't wait for that to happen.

“Once I knew that there was an opportunity [to move here], I was over-excited and just overwhelmed that this opportunity was there for me.

“It was something that I wanted to try to make happen so it is very humbling for me to be here now. It's a special day.”

Ajax are back in Eredivisie action this weekend as they take on RKC Waalwijk at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday afternoon, Henderson is reportedly unlikely to make his debut as he is still waiting for international clearance.
