Sheffield United Women confirm sacking of head coach Jonathan Morgan

Morgan has been sacked.

Sheffield United Women have announced the sacking of head coach Jonathan Morgan after 'new information that has come to light' surrounding his conduct prior to taking the role.

Morgan had been in charge of the Blades since February 2023, having previously had spells at Burnley and Leicester.

The club have now confirmed that Morgan has departed the club with immediate effect, with his position 'no longer tenable'.

The Blades wrote on their official website: "Due to new information that has come to light within the last few days with regards to Mr Morgan's conduct before arriving at Bramall Lane, the Club has reached the conclusion that Mr Morgan's position is no longer tenable and his employment with the Club has been terminated."

His representatives, Tongue Tied Management, told The Athletic that they had terminated their contract with Morgan: "In the last 24 hours, we have learnt new information regarding Jonathan Morgan and a relationship with a player under his charge.

"We will no longer be working with him in any capacity and the termination of our relationship is with immediate effect.

"The termination of this contract is a critical measure in preserving the integrity of our agency.

"We are absolute in our view that safeguarding standards and processes should apply to all athletes be they male or female.

"At Tongue Tied Management we are committed to maintaining an environment of respect, integrity, trust and accountability within the sports industry."

Last week, the FA opened a formal investigation into the circumstances behind the death of Maddy Cusack, who died aged 27 in September. The midfielder played under Morgan at Sheffield United.

The family alleged in a letter to the club (via The Athletic) that the midfielder's working relationship with the now former Blades manager caused her mental health to deteriorate prior to her death.

Morgan has robustly denied any wrongdoing, and maintained that he had a normal player-manager relationship with Cusack.

Sheffield United commissioned an external inquiry into events that Cusack's family believe 'contributed significantly to her passing' in October, which cleared Morgan and found 'no evidence of wrongdoing' once concluded in December.
