Jesse Lingard was seen sporting another name, J Lingz, on the back of his Corinthians jersey in his latest game for the club.

The former Manchester United star has for a long time used 'J Lingz' as his Instagram handle and as a nickname; however, now he will use it on the back of his football shirt in Brazil.

Lingard joined Corinthians on a one-year deal in March to join up with his former teammate Memphis Depay; it was a recommendation from the Dutchman and a pitch from agent Fernando Martins that convinced the Englishman to move to Sao Paulo.

Since making the move, the 33-year-old has become a crucial piece of the team, having made 13 appearances, scoring twice, with one of his goals coming in the Copa do Brasil last month, which saw him make history by becoming the first British player to do so.

Lingard will be hoping things go as well as they have done to this point, despite opting to change the name on the back of his jersey to J Lingz.

This decision will have surprised football fans all around the world; however, Corinthians have explained exactly why Lingard has taken this decision.

Neo Química and Corinthians partnered together for Generic Medicine Day, which is celebrated on May 20, by having the players enter the field with their nicknames printed on their shirts instead of their names.

This occurred during the fixture on May 14 between Corinthians and Barra during the Copa do Brasil, in which Lingard’s side emerged victorious on a 1-0 scoreline.

The initiative embodies the campaign concept "The name may change, but trust doesn't. Generic is Neo Química."

For football fans who are well versed in South Manchester football, they will be aware that this is not the first time that J Lingz has appeared upon a football top, as in August 2023 it was announced there would be a football team set up with this name to play amateur football.

At the time when Lingard announced this football team, which he set up, it was with the city in mind, as he wished to help it become the ‘heart of the community’.

However, despite a successful season in the Lancashire and Cheshire AFL, it appears they did not continue rising up the divisions for the next campaign, following their 2023/24 season.
