A moment of Lionel Messi magic during Inter Miami vs Real Salt Lake has gone viral.

The 2024 Major League Soccer season kicked off on Wednesday night with Inter Miami taking on Real Salt Lake at the Chase Stadium.

Armed with the likes of Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami were the favourites to get their first win on the board.

Goals from Robert Taylor and Diego Gomez were enough as David Beckham’s co-owned side won 2-0 to secure three points.

During the match, a moment of magic from Messi went viral on social media.

With the ball at his feet, the Argentine drove towards his opponent’s penalty area.

On the edge of the box, a Real Salt Lake player was down injured, at this point, Messi delicately chipped the ball over the injured player to carry on his run.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “The way it perfectly went over the guy was magical.”

Another tweeted: “That’s just downright silly.”

A third fan added: “Messi a sick, sick man…”

Someone else wrote: “Lol!! That’s cold as ICE.”

A fifth commented: “Get ready to see this on your timeline for the next month.”

Speaking after the match, Inter Miami boss Gerardo Martino said: “If anybody had been sceptical about what this team can do, I think the first half showed them. I saw [Messi] playing free on the field. And with the same fine touch he always had.

“And he showed some speed too. He has a characteristic that no other player has. He grabs the ball very far from the rival goal and the feeling he gives is that he will generate something and will end in a goal situation. The play he had alone against two players at the end of the game is a sign that he is good physically and also happy to be on the pitch.”

Inter Miami will be back in MLS action this weekend as they take on LA Galaxy on Sunday night.
