The Netherlands and France could finish on the same number of points at Euro 2024. Here's what would transpire if that happened.

Group D is evenly poised ahead of the final group games this afternoon.

The Netherlands face Austria in Berlin and France face Poland in Dortmund, where Kylian Mbappe is at risk of missing the last-16 tie if one thing happens today.

The Netherlands and France both have four points while Austria have three points to their name. As for Poland, they are eliminated from the tournament following back-to-back defeats.

But the Dutch lead the French on goal scored as they have the same goal difference.

And goal difference will once again separate the two nations should they both win their games.

If they both have the same goal difference, then it goes down to goals scored.

However, if the Netherlands and France still can't be separated, then whoever has the lowest disciplinary points will top Group D.

And should their disciplinary points be even, too, then France will top the group due to their higher position in the European qualifiers.

UEFA guidelines read: "Lower disciplinary points total in all group matches (1 point for a single yellow card, 3 points for a red card as a consequence of two yellow cards, 3 points for a direct red card, 4 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red card).

"Higher position in the European Qualifiers overall ranking, unless the comparison involves hosts Germany, in which case a drawing of lots will take place."

The Netherlands head into their clash against Austria having beaten Poland 2-1 and drawn against France, which ended goalless following a controversial VAR incident.

France, on the other hand, opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Austria before playing out a 0-0 stalemate with the Netherlands.

Austria, meanwhile, will secure a spot in the last-16 as one of the best third-placed teams if they avoid defeat by five goals against Ronald Koeman's side.
