France have been hit with two more injury blows on the back of Kylian Mbappe’s setback.

On Monday night, France began their Euro 2024 journey with a 1-0 win over Austria, who are managed by former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick.

An own goal from Maximilian Wober in the 38th minute was enough to seal the deal for Didier Deschamps’ side.

However, their evening was spoiled after Mbappe went off in the closing stages with a suspected broken nose.

It has since been reported that the Real Madrid superstar will now miss France’s next match against the Netherlands on Friday.

There is a chance that Mbappe could return against Poland next week.

Ahead of their match against the Dutch, it has been claimed that France have been dealt two further injury blows.

As reported by French news outlet L’Equipe, defensive duo William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano missed training on Wednesday due to muscular pain.

The report stated: “Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba, who formed the hinge on Monday in the victory against Austria (1-0), will not participate in this Wednesday's training because of muscle pain.

“On the other hand, Olivier Giroud will return. Kylian Mbappé should make laps of the field.”

If the central defenders are unable to play, the likes of Jules Kounde, Ibrahima Konate and Benjamin Pavard could be called upon to fill in at the heart of their defence.

Speaking on Tuesday, France boss Deschamps gave an update on Mbappe, he said: “This Wednesday there will be more tests to see his evolution. It was a major shock. The medical staff did everything necessary to reduce it as much as possible, after the tests.

“Even if there is not surgery immediately, he will have to do it after the tournament. This morning he was already a little better, so we will see. We will follow it closely every day.”
