The 17 five-star wonderkids from Football Manager 2013, where are they now?

There are some big names included in the list

Marcus Chan

Back in 2013, 17 young players were given a five-star rating on the popular football game, Football Manager.

The list, posted on Football Manager Story, included some huge names that have gone on to win multiple trophies but also included some players who didn’t quite live up to their potential.

Players such as Jack Wilshere, Mario Gotze, Neymar and Marco Verratti were all included in the list.

10 years on, here is a rundown of where FM 2013’s top-rated youngsters are now.

Marc Andre Ter Stegen

The German goalkeeper impressed during his time with Borussia Monchengladbach and is now the undisputed number one at Barcelona.

David Alaba

Having played over 400 times for Bayern Munich. He is now playing for Real Madrid and is a three-time Champions League winner.

Raphael Varane

World Cup winner, Champions League winner, Varane has practically won it all. The Frenchman now plays in the Premier League with Manchester United.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos

One that didn’t quite work out, Papdopoulos was linked with a move to the Premier League when he was at Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen. But now finds himself playing for Greek side Lamia.

Phil Jones

Jones played 229 times for Manchester United during his 12-year stay at Old Trafford. After winning the Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield and Europa League, he was released at the end of the 22/23 season.

Romulo

The once-highly-rated Brazilian Romulo was impressive at Spartak Moscow but his career has nosedived since then. He went to on play for Flamengo, Gremio, Shijiazhuang Ever Bright, Vasco de Gama and Retro.

Marco Verratti

Italian midfield maestro Verratti has been a mainstay in PSG’s midfield having played over 400 times for the Paris club. This summer, he has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Thiago Alcantara

From Barcelona to Bayern Munich to Liverpool, the Spaniard remains one of the finest midfielders in the world.

Eden Hazard

After his brilliant spell with Chelsea, Hazard endured a tough time with Real Madrid and is currently a free agent.

Mario Gotze

Gotze will forever be etched in Germany’s history after his winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final. He now plays for Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Jack Wilshere

Regarded as one of England’s best-ever talents, Wilshere’s career was badly hampered by injury and he retired in 2022 aged 30.

Iker Muniain

Muniain has stayed loyal to Athletic Bilbao after making 536 appearances for the club. Winning the Spanish Supercup during the 20/21 season.

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen went to Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax and played for the likes of Inter Milan and Brentford before moving to Manchester United last summer.

Oscar

The Brazilian midfielder swapped Chelsea for China back in 2017 and has been playing for Shanghai Port ever since.

Lucas Moura

Moura played over 300 matches for PSG and Tottenham Hotspur but left Europe for Sao Paulo this summer.

Neymar

By moving from Barcelona to PSG, Neymar became the most expensive footballer in the history of the sport. He moved to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal this summer.

Romelu Lukaku

The Belgian has scored 280 career goals in 589 matches but is currently finding a way out of Chelsea for the second time.
