Fans spot bizarre detail in FIFA Men's World XI that has confused everyone

The FIFPRO Men's 2023 World XI featured Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

The FIFA Men's World XI has become a discussion point amongst fans after Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson was honoured following an impressive year.

The Brazilian shot-stopper, who helped Pep Guardiola's side to an unprecedented treble last season, was crowned the winner of the Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper at Monday's ceremony in London.

He beat Morocco's Yassine Bounou and Real Madrid number one Thibaut Courtois to the accolade.

Ederson would later pay tribute to his manager in a touching speech. “I think that hard work, everything that we put in, was honoured, through the players we had in the Best XI, the Best manager, the Best goalkeeper," he said.

“I think they say that today’s Premier League is the highest level out there. A lot of that is merit to Pep and the style of play that he has introduced, that we play at Manchester City."

Ederson, who made 48 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions last season, may have scooped the individual prize but Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois was named in the World XI.

The decision was mostly met with surprise given he conceded more league goals than Ederson, who also kept more clean sheets in all competitions.

Ederson also recorded a higher percentage in regards to shots on target saved in the Champions League.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the decision.

One said: "I’m confused. Ederson FIFA Best keeper and Courtois in the FIFA men’s Xl?" while another commented: "Honestly, I don’t get why Courtois was chosen instead of Ederson, why Rodri is not on there and why Messi is on there."

A third wrote: "How did Courtois make the list when Ederson won The Goalkeeper of the year? More confusion everywhere."

A fourth added: "Still odd that Ederson is the best keeper in the world but not in the team ahead of Courtois."

After collecting the award for Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper, Ederson said Manchester City could "win them all again" as he spoke about their mentality and ambition.

He added: “What I think, along with the rest of my teammates, is about having the same ambition to win all these trophies again, because it’s so good to live moments like this, to experience moments like today."
