The nominations for the 2023 FIFA Puskas Award have been revealed but fans think one goal was harshly overlooked.
Since 2009, the FIFA Puskas Award has been awarded to the player who has scored the best goal of the calendar year.
Over the years, players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mohamed Salah and Son Heung Min have all won the prestigious award.
In 2022, the award was won by Polish amputee footballer Marcin Oleksy.
Ahead of the 2023 edition, the nominees were announced on Friday morning.
The nominees are:
FC Cincinnati v Pittsburgh Riverhounds | 06/06/2023
Germany v Colombia | 30/07/2023
Brighton v Manchester City | 24/05/2023
Jordan U-20 v Korea Republic U-20 | 05/03/2023
Atlas FC v CF América | 26/02/2023
Novorizontino v Botafogo FC-SP | 27/06/2023

Sporting v Boavista | 12/03/2023
Kazakhstan v Denmark | 26/03/2023
Brazil v Panama | 24/07/2023
However, fans felt that Sporting Lisbon midfielder Pedro Goncalves’ goal against Arsenal should have been nominated for the award.
The Portuguese scored a stunning effort from 40+ yards as he lobbed over Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale during the Europa League clash.
One fan said: “Pedro Gonçalves goal against arsenal???????? What a joke.”
Another commented: “Pedro Gonçalves robbed.”
A third fan added: “Where is Pedro Gonçalves goal against Arsenal????”
The voting for the 2023 Puskas Award will commence on Thursday 21 September and close at midnight CET on Tuesday 10 October.
