Fans brand France’s EURO squad ‘laughable’ as Premier League star misses out but legend receives shock recall

Fans have shown displeasure over Didier Deschamps’s France squad selection ahead of EURO 2024.

France, who are one of the clear favourites to go all the way in the tournament, have named their squad for EURO 2024.

Deschamps' men are hoping to brush off their 2022 World Cup disappointment after they were beaten on penalties by Lionel Messi's Argentina in Qatar.

At EURO 2020, France were beaten by Switzerland on penalties in the round of 16.

On Thursday night, Deschamps named his squad for the tournament, which will take place in Germany.

Premier League star Michael Olise missed out despite an impressive season playing for Crystal Palace.

However, former Chelsea man N’Golo Kante, who joined Saudi Professional League side Al Ittihad last summer, has received a shock recall.

Reacting to the squad on social media, one fan said: “Olise has been a Top 5 winger in the world this season by every efficiency metric and he's not even being seriously considered for a France call-up. Laughable."

Another tweeted: "He should have taken Olise but oh well..."

A third fan added: "Barcola and Dembele over Olise LOL Deschamps is a joke."

Someone else wrote: "Kante was 100% needed but no Olise is criminal."

Kante, 33, has not represented France since June 2022 and missed the World Cup in Qatar after suffering a serious hamstring injury prior to the tournament.

Since moving to Saudi Arabia last summer, the midfielder has made 41 appearances across all competitions for Al Ittihad, scoring four goals.
