The French FA have made a decision on the future of manager Didier Deschamps after they were knocked out of Euro 2024 at the semi-final stage by Spain.

Randal Kolo Muani gave France the lead in Munich, but goals from Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo put Spain ahead after just 25 minutes on the clock.

There were just five shots on target during the match, and Deschamps' substitutions in the second half ultimately had little impact.

France equalled a long-standing record in the group stage by qualifying without scoring a single goal from open play.

That run continued in the last 16 when Jan Vertonghen's own goal edged them past Belgium, before they won on penalties against Portugal after a 0-0 draw.

Those performances led to pressure being placed on Deschamps, and when questioned by a Swedish journalist, he replied: "If you're getting bored, watch another game."

The broken nose suffered by Kylian Mbappe in the opening group game against Austria was a major blow for France, with the 25-year-old stating that wearing a protective mask during subsequent matches has been an 'absolute horror' due to changes with his field of vision.

Antoine Griezmann is also not fully fit, while Karim Benzema retired from international football after the 2022 World Cup.

Now, Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, has given his backing to Deschamps, confirming his desire to see the manager stay on until at least the 2026 World Cup.

He told L'Equipe: "I don't see any reason to question his contract.

"The results of the past speak in his favour, and the objectives have been achieved. Didier will continue his mission."

However, in a subtle warning to his current manager, Diallo added that the team had 'some areas for improvement'.

Deschamps has been in charge of the national team since 2012, and became only the third man in history to win the World Cup as both a player and manager in 2018.

Les Bleus reached the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but infamously lost to Argentina on penalties.

He is the 18th longest-serving manager of a men's international team in history, and France's longest-serving manager of all-time.
