Donald Trump mocked by football fans after the US President asks 'the dumbest question ever' about the Olympics

US President Donald Trump is facing mockery from football fans after asking a 'dumb' question about the sport in relation to the next Olympic Games.

The next instalment of the Olympics will take place in 2028 in Los Angeles, after last year's event was held in Paris.

Football - or soccer as it is known as in North America - will be an event at LA 2028, with the Rose Bowl in Pasadena hosting games.

Donald Trump will be President when the next Olympics is held, after embarking upon his second term in the Oval Office at the start of this year, following victory in the US Elections over Kamala Harris late last year.

His presidency began with immediate controversial actions, including pardoning some 1,500 people who were convicted of offences towards the end of his first term in office in an attack on the Capitol Building.

He has also overseen the laying off of tens of thousands of federal workers in a bid to reduce spending.

President Trump has also taken action which has impacted the global economy with his imposition of tariffs on goods from other countries exported into the US, including from the UK.

The leader of the most powerful nation in the world is currently in Abu Dhabi speaking to business leaders on his first trip to the Middle East during his second spell as President.

During this visit, President Trump has been shown a rendering of Etihad Park, which will be the home of MLS side New York City FC and is based in Queens - the part of the city where the President hails from originally.

He said: "I know the area well. I grew up in Queens.

"That's where they used to fix the cars and a lot of other things got fixed there."

But President Trump also made a blunder as he asked the assembled business leaders if the stadium being built will be available for the Olympics - despite the Games taking place in LA on the West Coast, rather than New York on the East Coast.

Despite the potential error, an official said: "It will be available to be used."

The blunder has led to President Trump being slated by football fans on social media and publication For The Win even going so far as to describe the question as the 'dumbest' about the LA Olympics.

One fan wrote: "Talk about being DUMB, Trump is!!!"

Another posted: "I mean, my American geography is shamefully bad but even I know that LA and NYC are about as far removed from one another as it’s possible to be."

And another fan said: "The laughter behind his back has to be loud. Oh, to be a fly on the wall."

The potential confusion arises from the fact that the 2026 World Cup will be held jointly across the USA, Canada and Mexico - though all of those venues are confirmed and the stadium in Queens would not be ready for next summer anyway.
