Fans have been reacting on social media after seeing what Kyle Walker did before Dele Alli was sent off during his Como debut.

After overcoming a long injury lay-off, Alli finally made his much-anticipated return to football as he featured in Como's 2-1 Serie A defeat by AC Milan.

With 81 minutes on the clock, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Everton midfielder was introduced by manager Cesc Fabregas, replacing Lucas Da Cunha.

However, as the clock ticked beyond the 90th minute, Alli's debut turned into a nightmare as he was sent off after his challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek was deemed red-card worthy by VAR.

As referee Matteo Marchetti walked over to show Alli the red card, Walker appeared to plead with the official to show remorse.

But his efforts were in vain as Alli ultimately received his marching orders.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Kyle Walker was doing everything for the referee not to show Dele Alli the Red card. Once a Bro, always a bro."

Another tweeted: "Kyle Walker protesting against Dele Alli’s red because of what Alli has been through? Great gesture."

A third fan added: "Kyle Walker, AC Milan, was trying to convince the referee to not show Dele the red card. Old Tottenham mates. Friendship."

Someone else wrote: "Respect to Kyle Walker, tried saving Dele Alli from receiving a red card on his debut."

A fifth commented: "Ahhhh Kyle Walker tried to save Dele there."

Speaking after the match, Fabregas was critical of Alli, he said: "Dele Alli is a player who can score goals, he perhaps didn’t deserve this opportunity because he has only been working with us for two weeks and has a lot to improve.

"It is a grave mistake, one that we should not see from a player of his experience."

He added: "t was a clear red card, there’s nothing to be said about that, he left the team down to 10 men during a crucial moment when we were pushing for 2-2.

"That is the most negative thing about this evening, but we keep going."

Como are back in action on March 29 when they take on Empoli in Serie A.
