David Beckham reportedly involved in a bid to purchase football club

David Beckham is beginning to slowly build himself an empire of football clubs, and he could be set to add to his current portfolio of two.

The former Manchester United star is already the proud owner of Inter Miami in the MLS and League 2 team, Salford City.

Beckham began the process of football club ownership after he exercised his option to buy an MLS expansion team in February 2014, with this being part of the deal he agreed to when he signed his contract at LA Galaxy in 2007.

This is when Inter Miami were born, with the club making its MLS debut on 1 March 2020 with a 1–0 away loss to Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, in January 2019, it was announced that Beckham and his Class of ’92 teammates were part owners of English club Salford City, taking 10%. However, in May 2025, Beckham and Gary Neville led a new consortium taking over Salford.

Now, it appears that he is attempting to buy a historic French club, if reports from Ouest-France are to be believed.

The French outlet has reported that Beckham is rumoured to be involved in a bid to purchase Ligue 2 side FC Nantes, with the club currently in sporting disarray as they are bottom of the division after losing their first three league games on the back of their relegation from Ligue 1.

Nantes are a historic club in France with their eight Ligue 1 titles, which may be the reason Beckham and his group are interested, as they feel it is a project in which they can return a big club to its past heights, bringing future glories to the team.

It has been reported that Nantes have received at least, three bids to purchase the club. Two of them are tied to British-based funds, with the French outlet understanding that the Inter Miami owners' name is coming up numerous times in high-level discussions.

Les Canaris owner, Polish businessman Waldemar Kita, is believed to be willing to sell the club.

He bought Nantes in 2007 and under his stewardship it has not been a pleasant time for supporters as the club have dropped down into Ligue 1 twice, while they have had 24 head coaches in 19 years, with Kita and his son - club CEO Franck – unpopular figures with the fans.
