Daniele De Rossi holds talks with Premier League club as next manager to be sacked odds emerge

Daniele De Rossi could be about to make a sensational return to management after it emerged that a Premier League club have held talks with the former Roma and Italy midfielder over a potential move.

The 41-year-old, who recently spent eight months in charge at former club Roma, is said to be 'fascinated' by the idea of joining England's top flight.

In fact, De Rossi has studied the methods of his former teammate Pep Guardiola up close, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim the World Cup winner has become fluent in English over the past few years.

De Rossi has been waiting for another opportunity to come his way after being sacked by Roma following a difficult start to the 2024/25 campaign, but it now appears a move to Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers could be on the horizon.

A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Wolves have held preliminary talks with De Rossi through intermediaries, with the club keen on making a managerial change in the summer.

Vitor Pereira’s side currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, just 12 points above the relegation zone with eight wins from a possible 30.

It is said Wolves chiefs are 'disappointed' by their performance this season, with the Chinese ownership 'not happy' given the investments made in the past two years.

Last month, De Rossi dropped several hints over his future. “I would coach abroad and I have improved a foreign language," he said, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I try to inform myself and keep up to date both from home and in person to see the structures and pace of play abroad. I am very fascinated by other realities. I tried to improve a language that I didn't speak very well, I had free time to do things that I hope will be useful to me one day.

'I hope I don't have so much free time anymore. England? It's not a question of where or the championship, but that there is a serious project with serious people who want to take a journey together because they see something in me."

De Rossi also has strong ties to England, with most of his wife's family living there.

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently the 8/11 favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked, according to talkSPORT BET, while Vitor Pereira has been priced at 33/1, despite rumours surrounding De Rossi.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is 5/2 to be sacked, while Ivan Juric [4/1] and Enzo Maresca [12/1] are also named alongside Ruben Amorim [20/1], Pep Guardiola [25/1] and Kieran McKenna [33/1].
