Portugal captain and all-time top goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo rolled back the years with a sublime piece of skill in their Euro 2024 clash against Turkey.

The 39-year-old, who is currently playing in his sixth European Championship, remains an integral part of the Portugal squad.

In fact, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward played a key role in qualifying for this summer's tournament, scoring 10 goals.

Roberto Martinez's side became the eighth national side to qualify for a European Championship with a 100 per cent record.

And they started their campaign in Group F with a bang as a late goal from Francisco Conceicao sealed a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic.

Portugal boss Roberto Martinez was full of praise for Ronaldo after the full-time whistle on Tuesday. "He was very disciplined, worked hard and is a killer, a very important box player."

Martinez added: "He opens up space. When Francisco [Conceicao] scored, the space opened up because Cristiano was in the area. We work with a focus and Cristiano is important for us, in what we try to do in the penalty area."

Four days later and Ronaldo proved his importance to Os Navegadores again, when he produced an impressive display against Turkey.

As well as producing an assist for Bruno Fernandes, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner dropped Galatasaray defender Abdulkerim Bardakcı with a superb piece of skill.

Ahead of their second game of the tournament against Turkey, Roberto Martinez said Ronaldo was fit enough to repeatedly play full 90-minute matches.

"Do you know how many minutes Cristiano played last season? He has experience, there was no other player in the history of football with six European Championships played.

"It is important to understand what a player brings. Cristiano brings experience, brings goal opportunities, a way of opening up spaces. Cristiano is in the national team because he deserves to be here, just look at what he has done and what he has done in the last competitions."
