Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the one favour that he used to do for Lionel Messi, and not many people knew about it.

Ever since both Ronaldo and Messi emerged over 20 years ago, the two men and their achievements have been compared by fans across the world.

With Messi boasting eight Ballon d'Ors, more than any other player in history, and Ronaldo approaching an incredible 950 career goals, it's no surprise that they are widely considered to be two of the greatest of all time.

However, despite their rivalry on the pitch, when the boots are off Messi and Ronaldo have made it clear that they have only the utmost respect for each other.

In fact, in a recent press conference, Ronaldo revealed that throughout their careers, he has regularly helped the Argentine legend out with one specific issue that he had trouble with.

After scoring a winning goal for Portugal in their Nations League semi-final clash with Germany, Ronaldo spoke with the media and was asked about his feelings towards Argentina and Messi.

"I have an affection for Messi," admitted the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star.

He added: "The truth is we were rivals for many years, but I've said in a few interviews that we've been on the stage for 15 years."

And while expressing his gratitude and respect for Messi, but the 40-year-old also revealed that he used to act as a translator for his rival, who isn't fluent in English.

"I remember back then, I don't know if he speaks a little English now, but Messi didn't speak any English and I used to translate for him when they explained what we had to do at the gala," Ronaldo said.

"I have affection for him because he always treated me well and respected me a lot, just like I respected him."

Unfortunately, when asked if he believed that there would ever be a possibility to play alongside Messi sometime in the twilight of their careers, Ronaldo admitted that it was unlikely, but not impossible.

However, with reports suggesting that Ronaldo will leave Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr this summer, fans will no doubt be hoping that, wherever he goes next, the Portuguese legend will have the chance to share the pitch against his rival once again.
