Fans think they have figured out what was said between Pep Guardiola and Cole Palmer following Manchester City's victory over Chelsea on Sunday.

Man City began the defence of their Premier League title with a 2-0 victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Mateo Kovacic doubled his side's lead with a goal against his former team.

Chelsea didn't have an answer to Man City's approach as Palmer had a relatively quiet outing, having excelled last season.

He scored an impressive 25 goals across in all competitions in his first campaign for his new club following his transfer from Man City.

After the final whistle, the 22-year-old spoke to his old boss at length on the pitch.

And fans think they know what Guardiola told the England international.

One X user wrote: "He’s apologising for letting him leave but wants he back.

A second commented: "'You should have stayed at City! Your talent doesn't deserve to be wasted at Chelsea'."

A third added: "'You’ve got the Alvarez money, can I come back please?'"

A fourth guessed: "He told him he’s washing his career.

Another said: "Pep Guardiola was happy that Cole Palmer wasn't fully fit at his best today."

Palmer couldn't get going against his old side as Jamie Redknapp slammed Chelsea for looking like a 'bunch of strangers'.

On Sky Sports, he said: "This Chelsea team, it’s like you’ve thrown a bunch of strangers together and it’s very difficult to do that.

"You’re bringing on players off the bench, you’re trying to make things happen.

"It’s going to take a lot of time for Maresca to get them playing how he wants and find out what his best XI is.

"They have spent £1.2bn and they still haven’t got a top striker, and I’m not even sure they’ve got a good goalkeeper.

"For all the money they have spent they haven’t really filled probably two of the most important areas.”
