There is a shock favourite for the Chelsea job as it has been announced Mauricio Pochettino has left the club by mutual consent after just one season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The club released the following statement on Tuesday night confirming the Argentine's departure: "Sporting Directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: 'On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career."

The club also added: "Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino have left the club with Mauricio."

Despite a difficult start to the season, Pochettino's side rallied well in the run in of the Premier League finishing inside the top 6 and securing Europa League football for next season.

Todd Boehly and the rest of the Chelsea hierarchy will now immediately turn their attention to the hunt for a new young and progressive manager who would ideally take the reins in time for pre-season.

Pochettino becomes the third permanent manager and fifth overall to leave Stamford Bridge since the end of the Roman Abramovich era, following in the footsteps of Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel.

The Argentine released the following statement following the news: "Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club's history."

"The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come," he added.
