Mykhailo Mudryk received standing ovation for his performance against Brighton, you can see how much it meant

It clearly meant a lot.

Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk received an enormous standing ovation for his performance against Brighton.

On Wednesday evening Nicolas Jackson netted the only goal of the game to fire Chelsea past Brighton and into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The victory helped ease some of the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino after a difficult start to the Premier League campaign. The next round will see them face Championship outfit Blackburn.

One of Chelsea’s more impressive performers on the night was Mudryk.

While the wait for the Ukrainian’s first Blues goal continues, the 22-year-old was busy in both halves of the pitch and lifted the Stamford Bridge faithful from their seats whenever he was in possession.

And upon being substituted in the 68th minute for Raheem Sterling, Mudryk received an enormous standing ovation from the home crowd, which is likely to boost to a player struggling for confidence.

Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth up to £89million in January but has failed to score in 23 appearances.

The Ukraine international, who was on the cusp of joining Arsenal before making the move to Chelsea, has featured in five of the Blues' six league games this term, starting twice.

He had scored 10 goals in 18 appearances for Shakhtar during the first half of the 2022-23 campaign prior to sealing his Premier League transfer.

Another young attacker who impressed against Brighton was Cole Palmer, with the former Manchester City star teeing up Jackson for the goal.

After the game, Pochettino told Sky Sports: "I think all of the team was really good. Cole Palmer is a very talented player and was key in this victory. He is still young and still needs to settle in the club - not only the team, the city.

"It was a good response from the team, I am very pleased with the performance. It was important to go through and now I hope we can keep this momentum."
