Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk was told that 'London is red' by an Arsenal fan - and had an ice-cold comeback in response.

Mudryk was approached by the Gunners supporter as the Ukrainian national team boarded a coach ahead of their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia in the Czech Republic.

The fan asked Mudryk for a picture, with the Blues winger obliging.

But immediately afterwards, the supporter shouted: "London is red!"

As you can imagine, Mudryk wasn't impressed - but did come up with a quip in response. You can see the clip below.

Mudryk questioned: "Why are you asking for a photo then?"

The Chelsea winger was close to joining Arsenal in January, with the Gunners pursuing the signing of the 22-year-old from Shakhtar Donetsk.

But Todd Boehly swooped late to seal a €100 million for Mudryk, resulting in Chelsea beating Arsenal to his signing.

Speaking to The Athletic, Shakhtar CEO Sergey Palvin explained why the Ukrainian went to Stamford Bridge over a move to the Emirates Stadium: "They [Chelsea] called me at the end of December and asked if they can contact Mudryk because they are interested in him and want to talk with him.

"I said, 'No problem, you can contact him'. The first time they contacted him was around the end of December or the start of January.

"Why did many people around it have the impression that Mudryk was going to Arsenal. But negotiations are negotiations. When you didn't close everything, when you did not [close] the last dot, then you cannot finish the deal."

Mudryk has had a difficult start in adapting to life at Stamford Bridge, but will hope that his goal in the 2-0 London derby win over Fulham earlier this month can kickstart his Chelsea career under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.
