Gary Neville names the one signing Chelsea need to make to become Premier League title challengers

The Sky Sports pundit has one suggestion for Chelsea.

Gary Neville has named the one thing that Chelsea is missing and the signing he believes they need to make to challenge for the Premier League title.

Since taking the role of manager in June, Enzo Maresca has impressed at Chelsea, guiding them to four wins and two draws from in first seven Premier League matches.

However, his impressive record took a hit on Sunday afternoon as his side lost 2-1 to league leaders Liverpool in a tense affair at Anfield.

And following the result, Sky Sports pundit Neville has suggested the one signing that Chelsea need to make if they hope to challenge for the Premier League title in the near future.

After Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead after being awarded a penalty shortly before the half hour mark, Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson equalised just minutes into the second half.

Despite this, Neville isn't convinced that the Senegalese forward is good enough to be the star man up front for the Blues, and believes that they must sign a world-class striker if they hope to win silverware.

Speaking after the match on the Gary Neville podcast, the pundit said: "I don’t want to call out Nicolas Jackson, because I think he can be part of a very successful squad that can do well for Chelsea.

"I just think if he had a world-class striker in front of him – and he was the second striker – that would probably be more aligned with a team who can go on and potentially win a title in a few years time and catch Liverpool up."

During the summer transfer window, Chelsea were linked with several strikers as they looked to add another talented forward to their already impressive front line.

Things heated up for the London club on deadline day, as they made last-minute efforts to bring either Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen to the club.

Either man would have no doubt been a fantastic addition to the Chelsea squad, but ultimately both deals fell through, leaving Chelsea without a new striker.

Instead, Toney decided to join Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, while Osimhen secured a loan move to Turkish club Galatasaray.
