Cole Palmer given bizarre nickname by his Chelsea team-mates due to one habit

Cole Palmer has an unusual alternative nickname.

Cole Palmer has been given a bizarre new nickname by one of his Chelsea teammates due to one of his habits.

Palmer enjoyed a superb first season at Chelsea following his move from Manchester City last summer, scoring 25 goals and assisting a further 15 in all competitions.

The 21-year-old was voted Chelsea's player of the season and won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, and was further rewarded with a place in England's 26-man squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

It's no surprise that Palmer has established himself as a firm fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, with supporters christening him 'Cold Palmer' thanks to his relaxed attitude and apparent calmness during high-pressure moments, such as when taking penalties.

The attacker has leant into the nickname, mimicking a shivering gesture when celebrating his goals.

However, that isn't the nickname that Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic uses for him.

Like Palmer, Petrovic arrived at Chelsea last summer and soon established himself as a regular starter. After replacing Robert Sanchez between the sticks the Serbian shot-stopper kept seven clean sheets in 31 outings.

Speaking in a club interview, Petrovic said: "Cole is an amazing guy, always relaxed... maybe even more on the pitch than off it. He has had an amazing season and helped the team a lot.

"Sometimes we have lunch together and I have beetroot a lot, most times. So, Cole gave me the nickname Beetroot.

"I needed one for him and he eats a lot of beans, which I think is normal for English people, so he is now Beans.

"I know people call him Cold Palmer, which is a correct nickname for him, but for me he is Beans."

Petrovic and Palmer could go head-to-head when England face Serbia in their Euros opener of June 16, although the goalkeeper is not expected to start.
