TNT Sports made a major blunder during Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Luton Town.

Chelsea held off a late Luton fightback to end a run of four successive away defeats and bring 2023 to a close with a victory.

The Blues have lost 19 Premier League games this year - more than any other team - but went three goals ahead courtesy of a Cole Palmer brace and ferocious strike from Noni Madueke.

However, ex-Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley directed a near-post header into the far corner with 10 minutes to go and six minutes later Elijah Adebayo nodded home Alfie Doughty's rebound to put Mauricio Pochettino’s side on the ropes for the closing stages.

Ultimately Chelsea held firm to claim a first three points on the road since November 6.

During the game, however, eagle-eyed TNT Sports viewers spotted a blunder with the scoreboard.

After Barkley pulled one back against his former club, TNT Sports accidentally flashed up that the score was 4-0 to the Blues.

Within seconds, however, the mistake was rectified and the correct 3-1 scoreline was on screen.

Nevertheless, the mistake didn’t go unnoticed.

Writing on X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, one fan said: "TNT Sports momentarily giving the goal to Chelsea."

Another added: "TNT really thought Barkley scored for Chelsea."

After the game, Pochettino praised his side for the performance and ability to grind out a result.

The Chelsea boss said via Sky Sports: "I am so pleased, I think it's never easy, we needed to win and we controlled the game until the second half, about 60-65 minutes. It was a positive performance, I'm so happy. But when you concede it increases the opponent's belief.

"You can see it's difficult to play here, you've seen it against other teams - Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal. They have very good players and a very good coach, we needed the three points and we got what we wanted.

"Football is always about emotions, emotion that when you are winning 3-0 you are nervous because different situations can happen. Then we conceded a goal, their belief increased, and in the Premier League too many times that happened. Brighton were winning 4-0 against Tottenham and it was 4-2, the Premier League is tough."
