Lincoln City fans booed one Chelsea player every time he touched the ball during the first half of their Carabao Cup third round clash.

Enzo Maresca's side travelled to the LNER Stadium looking to end a run of three games without a victory in all competitions.

But it was the League One side who went in front on 42 minutes through striker Rob Street's goal.

Maresca fielded a rotated side for the clash, with Tyrique George, Facundo Buonanotte and Andrey Santos among those handed starts by the Italian manager.

Alejandro Garnacho, meanwhile, was given his full Chelsea debut by Maresca after substitute appearances against Brentford and Bayern Munich.

The Argentinian completed a £40 million move to Stamford Bridge from Manchester United in the summer after United manager Ruben Amorim personally told him to find a new club.

Garnacho described United's season as 's**t' in an interview after they lost the Europa League final to Spurs, and the Daily Mail reported that there were repeated concerns over his attitude and use of social media.

He was on the end of significant boos and a new X-rated chant when he returned to Manchester for Chelsea's 2-1 defeat to Amorim's side on Saturday.

During the first half against Lincoln, Garnacho has been booed on every occasion he touched the ball and there were repeated claims of diving every time he went to ground.

London Evening Standard reporter Dom Smith wrote on Twitter: "Lincoln fans really not taking to Alejandro Garnacho. At all. Every time he receives the ball he is booed, and every time he is fouled there are loud claims he has dived."

Reacting to the boos, one fan wrote: "Lincoln fans are clearly trying to rattle Garnacho tonight. Good test of his mental strength I guess."

Another said: "Garnacho getting the rough treatment from the Lincoln players and their fans tonight."

And a third noted: "Lincoln are kicking lumps out of Garnacho."
