UEFA impose little-known rule for Champions League final that means Allianz Arena will have a different name for PSG vs Inter

PSG take on Inter in Munich on Saturday night.

UEFA have imposed a strict rule ahead of the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

PSG and Inter will contest European football's showpiece match on Saturday evening in Munich.

Inter will be looking to win their first Champions League title since 2010 under Jose Mourinho, amid doubts over manager Simone Inzaghi's future.

PSG, meanwhile, have never won the competition. But manager Luis Enrique has, having lifted the trophy with Barcelona in 2015.

They have beaten three English teams - Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal - to reach the final, while Inter defeated Feyenoord, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

It promises to be a huge spectacle in Germany, with this being the final game of the 2024/25 season in terms of major European football.

The match will be played at the Allianz Arena, the home of Bayern Munich.

However, the stadium will be using a different name on Saturday due to a strict UEFA rule.

UEFA do not recognise stadium sponsorships in their official regulations or documents, meaning that Allianz - a Munich-based German financial services company - must be temporarily removed.

For Euro 2024, it was renamed as the 'Munich Football Arena' and is set to revert back to that name today.

Allianz have sponsored Bayern's stadium since it was first opened in 2005, and has an agreement that lasts until 2033.

The rule has also affected Arsenal when they play European games, with the Emirates Stadium simply called Arsenal Stadium - which is, coincidentally, the official name used when the club played matches at its previous home of Highbury.

The rule is so strict that the sponsor's name can only be used either over a PA system for safety/security reasons, as part of any pre-printed materials including match tickets, or as part of existing permanent signage around the outside of the stadium building.
