Liverpool and Chelsea's wins in the Champions League has created an unprecedented scenario.

Liverpool and Chelsea secured big wins on Tuesday, beating Marseille and Pafos respectively.

The Reds claimed an impressive 3-0 victory at the Stade Velodrome, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo among the scorers.

The Blues, meanwhile, beat their Cypriot opponents 1-0 at Stamford Bridge as Moises Caicedo scored the game's only goal.

Their wins put both clubs in the top eight of the Champions League standings, which would mean automatic qualification to the knockout stage.

Liverpool and Chelsea hold commanding positions ahead of facing Qarabag and Napoli respectively.

As things stand, they join Arsenal, who are leading the way after winning each of their seven Champions League fixtures this season, Tottenham and Newcastle United in the top eight.

Manchester City, who suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday, are placed outside the top eight, occupying 11th, with Erling Haaland 'calling out' his own teammates.

But Pep Guardiola's side can still secure a top eight finish with a victory over Galatasaray.

However, they are guaranteed a play-off spot given their points tally of 13.

That means England will have six clubs in the Champions League knockout play-off phase as they all have secured a spot in the top 24.

Needless to say, the Premier League are the best represented league in the Champions League knockout phase.

Arsenal have guaranteed their spot in the last 16 and could be joined by five English clubs in the knockout stage.

The Champions League standings is very congested, with just three points separating third-placed Real Madrid from Juventus in 15th.

Next Wednesday's final round of fixtures will begin with nine teams below Liverpool in the table capable of also finishing on 16 or more points.

The final round of group stage games sees Arsenal face Kairat, Liverpool meet Qarabag and Eintracht Frankfurt take on Spurs.

Not to mention Paris Saint-Germain vs. Newcastle, Napoli vs. Chelsea and Man City vs. Galatasaray.
